There's a sunk cost fallacy in this preparation. You think, 'I've already given 3 years, one more try will do it'.
I realized that my physical and mental health were deteriorating. I had put my life on hold for a possibility with a <1% success rate.
Deciding to quit was harder than deciding to prepare. But three years later, working in the private sector, I can definitively say it was the right choice. The hard work and discipline I learned during prep made me excel in my corporate career.
